Sonia heads the Innovative Finance and Capital Markets Section at the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa’s Private Sector Development and Finance Division.
Among her main responsibilities, she supports African states in their efforts to deepen their domestic financial markets and mobilize and attract long-term investment to strengthen their economies.
Prior to this position, she worked for nearly 15 years in corporate investment banking. In her various positions, she has gained in-depth knowledge of global debt financing and capital markets. She was involved in developing pioneering activities for Societe Generale. Among other things, she has significantly contributed to the launch of the bank’s green and impact financing offerings and participated actively in the development of the first green bonds.
She holds a Master of Science in trading and asset management from the ESLSCA Business School as well as a master’s degree in corporate finance from the California State University and the University of Cergy Pontoise.
She has a BA in computer programming and software from the University of Paris XIII and is a CFA charterholder since 2017.
